If a certain page on a site does not load for some reason or in case a link is not functioning, the website visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the site, that could make the visitor leave the site. A likely solution in such a case is a feature offered by some hosting providers - the ability to set your own customized error pages that will have the same design as your site and that can contain any text or images that you'd like based on the specific error. There are 4 popular errors that could take place and they involve the following so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your Internet browser sends a bad request to the hosting server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you are supposed to log in to see some webpage, but you haven't done so yet; 403, if you don't have a permission to view a specific page; and 404, if a link which you've clicked leads to a file that doesn't exist. In each of these scenarios, website visitors will be able to see your personalized content as opposed to a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting

The personalized error pages feature is offered with each shared hosting package which we offer and you shall be able to substitute all generic pages with your own with no more than a few clicks inside your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. You'll need to create the actual files and to upload them to your account, and then to set them for a given domain or subdomain through the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel. You could do this for each and every site hosted in the account individually, so that every group of personalized pages shall have identical style and design as the website it's part of. When necessary, you can always revert back to a default page from our system or to a default Apache server page. Another way to set customized error pages is to create an .htaccess file in the domain/subdomain root folder and to include a few lines in it. If you never done this before, you can simply copy the needed program code from our Help article about this.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you host your web sites in a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll be able to set custom made error pages for any of them with ease through our in-house made Hepsia hosting CP. With a few mouse clicks inside the Hosted Domains section, you could modify the default setting from a system page to a tailor-made one for any of the four error types. All you have to do is supply a link to each and every file you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If needed, you shall be able to revert this customization anytime and in exactly the same way. If you would like, you may use an .htaccess file too. It has to be created/uploaded inside the domain or subdomain folder linked to the website whose error pages you would like to modify and the content for this type of file can be found in our Help article on this matter.
